We are seeking a talented Field Service Technician with a proven record in performing field service work to support complex machinery.  This position contributes to the success of the organization by providing expertise in field service troubleshooting, installations, and repair of our machinery.  This is a non-union permanent position with hourly pay and full benefits.  Travel will be required both domestically and internationally.  The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical fundamentals, social confidence, and a great work ethic.


  • Assembling packaging machines and sub-assemblies
  • Partner with other mechanics, team leaders and management to ensure understanding of machine assembly along with issues and corrective actions to be taken while minimizing downtime.
  • Maintain and support assembly process by strictly adhering to GMPs, OSHA and the company’s SOPs.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical devices.
  • Travel to customer’s locations to install, start-up, maintain and troubleshoot Garvey machines.
  • Train customer’s operators and technicians on set-up, operation, change-over and maintenance of the systems.
  • Work with customers to ensure they have the parts required to expeditiously repair any ongoing issue as well as have adequate stock of spare components.
  • Prepare and submit detailed trip reports for the customer and company that identify problem(s) encountered, actions taken to resolve the problem(s), and recommend next steps to fully satisfy the customer’s service need.
  • Provide technical assistance to customer both over the phone and via remote connection.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance including unplanned/emergency repairs.
  • Breakdown and crating of systems.
  • Support Manufacturing, Engineering, and Product Development departments with ongoing and new projects and their validations.
  • Must be willing to travel and work overtime when needed by the company.
  • Practice good housekeeping and appropriate measures to increase efficiency in a lean manufacturing environment as well as prevent negative impacts on the equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent, Associates Degree in related technical field (mechanical and/or electrical) or 3+ years related/equivalent experience in the packaging industry.
  • 3+ years in custom machine manufacturing or mechanical repair/maintenance.
  • Understanding of GMPs, SOPs, Lock out Tag out, and OSHA.
  • Ability to travel 85% of the time and work overtime as required.
  • General math skills

  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Must be able to stand on concrete for 8 hours.
  • Must be able to lift over 50lbs, no more than 75lbs.
  • Ability to read and understand complex engineering designs.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills and independent judgment.
  • Ability to work independently, maintain a positive attitude and work well with all levels of management and operators.


  • Knowledge of forklift and pallet jack operation.
  • Experience with mechanical systems within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and understand micrometers and calipers.
  • Can read and red line electrical drawings.
  • Experience with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs, automated and Vision systems, Servos and Controls.
  • Experience with AutoCAD/Draftsight
  • Experience with SolidWorks
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel.


  • Manufacturing/warehouse environment.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and walking.
  • Must be able to preform job on foot 95% of the working day.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, etc. up to 75-pound weight daily and often throughout each day.
  • Garvey’s customers are located world-wide making travel an essential function for this position.
  • A valid un-restricted license along with the ability to travel both domestically and internationally must be present.
  • Travel periods lasting on average of a week up to, on occasion, six weeks will be required.
